Aid organizations need your assistance but warn that well-intentioned efforts like collecting bottled water and clothing on your own may not be the most helpful thing for a disaster-ravaged country that does not have the infrastructure to distribute them.
A special CBC website called Haiti Relief has been created to make it easier to help. With links to charities, social media communities, emergency contact info and much much more, if you're looking for a way to help in some way, this is a great place to start.
With all the Christmas and New Years festivities out of the way, now is the time to be looking towards Valentine’s Day, and thinking about giving something a bit different, that is both lasting and personal.
So, with this in mind I’ve come up with a Valentine’s Day Gift Certificate shoot at a great price that also includes a collection of 8x10 prints.
This is a very personal gift, with a customized gift certificate, that will last a lifetime, not just a few weeks!
Well, I've just managed to look up, and it's the 23rd already! That was a quick month!
Decembers are always a busy time of the year, and this one was no exception! Thank you to everyone for such a fun few weeks, plenty of fantastic shoots, and of course hundreds (actually more like thousands!) of great, real, in-the-moment-pictures of life in all its magic!
I've included here just a tip of the proverbial iceberg, a couple images that show a little of the fun we had with clients.
The next issue of Montreal Families just came out, for January 2010, and Serengeti had the privilege again of shooting the cover photo, with Max and his best friend Riley.
Montreal Families' December issue is out, and if you've had a chance to look at the credits, you would have noticed that Serengeti did the cover shot, with 7 years old Bryanna.
Bryanna had a great shoot, and besides some good images for the cover, we had a chance for some really fun fairy photos as well!
I don't know if it's just me, but there seems to be some magic going on in this shot of her!
Sometimes I do get out! It's been a very busy Fall, with barely a minute to breathe, and a corresponding lack of activity on the blog I'm afraid, but I still managed to get out before we lost all our stunning Fall colors.
Montreal is a beautiful city any time of the year, but when the leaves turn, and we're blessed with a good run of warm weather, well, there's no reason not to take the camera out on a good walk around.
Just in time for the Holidays coming up (yes, they are around the corner...) we are now offering an exciting variety of new products, including Photo Puzzles!
Turned into real jigsaw pieces, a clients photograph becomes truly interactive. Photo Puzzles make unique gifts that can be pieced together again and again or framed as a whimsical display.
The quality of printing and construction is superb, and I think this will be a cherished addition to any collection of gifts!
Also amongst our new products are Single-Page Calendars, and Fine-Art options like our new Standout Prints, Acrylic Prints and Metal Prints. Pictures coming soon!
I'm busy processing and preparing a print order for clients Ann and Lyle, and when I came to these photos, I stopped.
I looked at these shots, and realized what a good example they are of "being in the moment". There's nothing orchestrated or posed about these images, or the other 241 that I selected for Ann and Lyle's final web gallery.
Lyle often hoists little Tyler into the air when they are playing, and this is what he did during their shoot. They were behaving as they normally do, and I was there to "witness" this relationship, naturally happening before me.
My point is the "spirit" of a shoot with Serengeti. Everyone is relaxed, in an atmosphere where they can just be themselves, and the shoot naturally and spontaneously unfolds, the pace dictated by each person.
I've been meaning to make a post about this for a little while now. Californian photograher Chase Jarvis, being the talented photographer and shrewd businessman that he is, recently launched a new website in conjunction with a book and his new iPhone app "Best Camera". The site, called The Best Camera, features an online community and fantastic collection of images posted by anyone with an iPhone. That could be you!
The iPhone app has a range of filters that enable you to "treat" a photo with various effects, creating a "recipe" you can then post and share online.
It's an inspiring idea, and should encourage the artist in all of us! As Jarvis says: "What good is a pcture if you don't share it?"
California-based photographer Alexx Henry recently shot a “living” magazine cover and spread for the October issue of Outside Magazine, with top triathlete Chris Lieto, a multi-time winner of the Hawaiian IronMan.
Photographed using the revolutionary Red One cinema camera and the Canon 5d Mark II, Henry created a moving magazine that looks right out of a Harry Potter movie.
Is this the future of magazine? As one person posted on Vimeo: "Pretty nice. But what about the dramatic increase in power consumption with such disposable "living magazines". Clearly, disposable is not the way to go here!"
The October issue of Montreal Families monthly magazine has just come out. And the front cover is a photo by Serengeti, showing little Madison as Tinkerbell the fairy.
Two-year old Madison, one of the winners for Montreal Families annual cover kids competition, won herself and her family a shoot with Serengeti, and since she loves Tinkerbell, it wasn't hard to have her take on the role very convincingly!
Below is the magazine cover, followed by the full image.
Serengeti is offering "Halloween Shoots" where kids can dress up and take on their favorite characters, and then get worked into a final image after considerable photoshop post-production.
On top of the October monthly cover, Serengeti ALSO shot the cover for the Montreal Families Fall/Winter Directory, with Kelly and Mark and their boys. A super family, we had a great time during their shoot!
The past month has been tremendously busy, especially for this time of year, when many are getting kids back to school, and themselves back to work!
Keeping up with posts on the blog has been a challenge for me, and there will be much I plan to add in the coming weeks. For now, below are a few shots I am really excited about!
Lawyers Paul-Matthieu, Roberto and Jean-François from Grondin Savarese recently visited for a photo session, needing headshots for their new website.
As you can see, this we got nicely for them, and then some!
Considering themselves not "your typical lawyers", Paul-Matthieu, Roberto and Jean-François were looking for a series of images with a difference, in addition to "traditional" shots, that showed their sporty side, in a "tongue-in-cheek, we don't always take ourselves THAT seriously, but dramatized" sort of way!
Hello everyone! Virginie and I are back from a great break away. A roadtrip through to Wisconsin to visit the dearest of friends at The Teaching Drum, with a good little side trip up and along the shores of the great Lake Superior.
I think we did an admirable job of blending in with the Mosquito and Deerfly, and our forays into some of the wilderness areas we encountered have given us beautiful memories to treasure.
We hope you have had a great Summer so far, and that holidays you might have taken were filled with adventure as well as quiet time!
So, Serengeti Studios is back in action. We have a host of projects to celebrate the continuing Summer with. The website will soon be in for an exciting overhaul and redesign. The client areas will get a complete make-over, and we have several new creative options coming for clients photos.
Yup, it's that time of year, and the studio will be closed for several weeks as we get a good break of routine, and catch up on some sun and good adventure!
It's been a super Spring and early Summer, with lots and lots of thrilled new clients! THANKS EVERYONE!!
Serengeti will be back in the action August 10th! Till then take care, and enjoy your holidays!
Thanks Simon Duhamel for this find. A really interesting video on Vimeo showing photographer Dave Hill on location shooting for an amazing series of images. Great photoshop work! What a master!
